How the outlook works

Live facts first. Date-specific judgment second.

The selected water uses live hourly weather, available USGS streamflow, and official generation schedules. Its daily bite score is the average of the 17 hourly outlooks from 5 AM through 9 PM, so the directory and full report use the same number. Each hour weights seasonal activity, low light, air temperature, rain, wind, streamflow, and active dam generation; unsafe storm or excessive-flow conditions reduce the outlook. Fly patterns are ranked for the water profile, season, temperature, rain, wind, preferred flow range, and dam activity; the alternate is always the next-highest distinct pattern. The site retries slow feeds and keeps a short-lived last-good reading instead of dropping to a blank state. Generation start and cutoff times come from the official schedule; downstream rise and recovery windows are clearly labeled estimates.
